पिण्डदान: प्रत्येक मनुष्य के जीवन में तीन ऋण होता है। ऋषि ऋण, देव ऋण एवं पितृ ऋण। जीवित अवस्था में अपने माता-पिता की सेवा करने से इस पितृऋण से उर्ऋण होते हैं परन्तु किसी कारणवश सेवा से अगर वंचित रह जाते हैं तो पौराणिक मान्यता के अनुसार अपने मृत परिजनों की आत्मा की शान्ति के लिए पिण्डदान करने का विशेष महत्त्व है। पिण्डदान करने से उत्तम कल्याणकारी लोकों की प्राप्ति होती है। भगवान राम ने भी अपने पिता राजा दशरथ के लिए पिण्डदान किया था। पिण्डदान की विधि अनुभवी पंडितो, पुरोहितो, विशेषज्ञों से कराने से विशेष लाभ मिलता है। हमारे यहाँ अनुभवी पुरोहितों के द्वारा पिण्डदान का कार्य सम्पन्न कराया जाता है। पुत्र का कत्र्तव्य होता है कि अपने जीवन काल में श्रद्धाभाव रखते हुए माता-पिता की सेवा करें और उनके मरणाोंपरांत उनके प्रति श्रद्धाभाव से पिण्डदान तर्पण कार्य अवश्य करें। ताकि किसी भी योनि में भटकते हुए आत्मा को शान्ति मिलें।
